Riviera Maya, Q.R. — More than 500,000 pre-holiday travelers arrived in Quintana Roo last week. The figures were released Monday by the State Secretariat of Tourism.
According to the State Secretariat, based on estimates from hotel associations, municipal tourism directorates, the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council, the Southeast Airport Group and Airports and Auxiliary Services, the state has recorded an important flow of tourism.
During the week of March 9 to 15, Quintana Roo registered an influx of 545,805 tourists and 2,208 national and international flights, consolidating its leadership as the jewel of the Mexican Caribbean.
Of those flights, there were 2,208 recorded arrivals of which 1,539 were international and 615 national.
Hotel occupancy rates are currently averaging above 80 percent with Cancun leading the way. According to figures provided by the State Secretariat, Cancun is registering 89.2 percent followed by Puerto Morelos 88.2, Cozumel 87.7 and Costa Mujeres 87.1 percent occupancy rate.
Riviera Maya is not far behind with an 85.7 reported hotel occupancy rate followed by Isla Mujeres 81.8, Tulum 80.2 and Grand Costa Maya 45.4.
