Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Mexico is making progress in strengthening and expanding the National Electric System (SEN). Authorities say in 2026, the state of Quintana Roo is part of that expansion. The country’s power system is being expanded through a set of strategic priority projects for transmission, generation and clean energy.
Emilia Esther Calleja Alor, the General Director of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), says Quintana Roo is part of that strategy. Next year, the state has been included in a 66-transmission-project list, three of which are clean energy.
These projects, she said, aim to ensure sufficient generation capacity, strengthen system reliability and prevent future risks to the country’s electricity supply.
The projects were defined based on the planning of the Sistema Eléctrico Nacional (SEN) and the need to anticipate the growth in electricity demand in the coming years.

“What we are presenting today are technical and administrative decisions, as well as a strong commitment which seeks to guarantee sufficient, reliable and continuous electricity for families, industry and public services, respecting the timeframes set by law and the real conditions of the territory,” said the Director General of the CFE.
Additionally, the CFE (Comisión Federal de Electricidad) plans to implement a group of projects currently under joint evaluation with Fondo Nacional de Infraestructura (Fonadin) under an institutional coordination framework.
They are three clean energy projects: two photovoltaic and one wind, with a combined capacity of approximately 443 MW.
One of them is CFV Los Girasoles for the state of Quintana Roo. The project will have a capacity of 110 MW. Calleja Alor says the investment portion of the project is still under evaluation.

It is one of three slated for next year. The other two clean energy projects are CFV Las Garzas in Durango with a capacity for 270 MW and CE San Luis de la Paz (Wind Power) in San Luis de la Paz, Guanajuato with a capacity for 63 MW.
