Puerto Morelos starts million peso New Year beach infrastructure projects

Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — Nearly one million pesos is being spent on a beach infrastructure project in Puerto Morelos. Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz says the projects are part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at strengthening the security, functionality, tourist services and urban image of the destination.

The money is being spent on repairing current lifeguard towers and the construction of a new information kiosk. Blanca Merari noted that the total investment for the projects amounts to 996,689 pesos.

“Our beaches are one of Puerto Morelos’s main assets. That’s why we invest in functional, safe infrastructure that blends with the environment, allowing us to improve service to tourists and provide greater protection for those who visit every day,” she said.

The project, she explained, includes the repair of lifeguard towers, the construction of a mobile information module similar to a “Window to the Sea” kiosk and the building of a walkway with a wooden structure and an elevated guardhouse, using highly durable materials that have undergone special treatments for coastal environments.

Mario Salinas Castro, the Secretary of Public Works, explained that the work is being carried out under technical criteria that guarantee resistance to humidity, salinity and other conditions typical of the marine environment.

“We are using treated materials and construction systems suitable for coastal areas, which will allow us to extend the lifespan of the infrastructure and offer safer and more functional spaces,” he said.

He explained that the comprehensive repair of the Playa Sol lifeguard tower includes the rehabilitation of railings, stairs and wooden structural elements, the placement of moldings and rehabilitation of the floor with non-slip rubber coating as well as the installation of safety treads, fixed bench and application of a protective treatment with a natural finish.

The Ventana al Mar Information Module is being built with a PTR-type metal structure, floors, walls, roof, windows and door, as well as trailer-type wheels for its mobility, reinforced drag system and wood and metal finishes, he said.

Similarly, work is underway on the Arrope Gradas de Fondo walkway where the foundation and construction of a five-meter-high trapezoidal structure will be carried out.

That project will include a base of treated zapote wood, an elevated guardhouse, safety railings, a four-sided roof with vegetation, access stairs, non-slip floors and perimeter benches, all with comprehensive treatment against humidity and insects.
