Puerto Aventuras man charged with murder of girlfriend he claimed committed suicide

Puerto Aventuras, Q.R. — A Puerto Aventuras man who said his girlfriend died by suicide has been charged in her death. Police said Tuesday that Carlos Alfredo “N” has been charged with femicide after his story failed to hold up against results of an autopsy.

The couple shared a home in Privada Cangrejo in the town of Puerto Aventuras where they fought on January 1. According to a statement from the Attorney General of the State (FGE), Carlos Alfredo “N” told police that his girlfriend died by suicide from hanging.

The woman, who has not been named, was found dead on a dirt road in the municipality of Tulum. Police say Carlos Alfredo “N” wrapped her body in a blanket and dumped her on a dirt road in the town of Chemuyil, in the municipality of Tulum.

Details as to how or when she was found were not provided in the Tuesday police statement.

However, police did say that an autopsy determined that the woman did not die by hanging as Carlos Alfredo “N” had told police. He has since been charged with murder in the form of femicide and ordered to remain in jail during his trial.

On Tuesday, the FGE said that “a judge issued the order to proceed with the trial of Carlos Alfredo “N”, alias “Diablo”, for his probable involvement in acts possibly constituting the crime of femicide.

“The events for which Carlos Alfredo “N” is being investigated occurred on January 1 of this year when he was with his partner at home located in Privada Cangrejo, in the town of Puerto Aventuras.

“Allegedly at some point they argued and, according to statements of the accused, she would have committed suicide by hanging, however, the autopsy determined that the injuries that the victim presented did not coincide with that cause of death.

“Initial investigations indicate that Carlos Alfredo “N” took her life and subsequently abandoned her body, wrapped in a blanket, on a dirt road in the town of Chemuyil, in the municipality of Tulum.”

Police did not provide information on what the autopsy revealed as the official cause of death.
