Bacalar, Q.R — Police were sent to the scene of a road blockade Friday night at the entrance to the community of Limones. The road was blocked by citizens using tires and branches that had been set on fire.
The road was reported shut by community residents around 10:00 p.m. There were local media reports armed men were responsible for the road closure, however, it was closed by protesting residents.
Residents were expressing their concern about the recent shootout between police and criminal gang members that left one criminal dead and another injured.
On Saturday, the SSC (Secretary of Citizen Security) said they reopened the road last night.
Bacalar traffic was disrupted for around two hours while residents hung around even after police reopened the road.
