Police capture Cancun couple believed responsible for at least 17 armed robberies

Cancun, Q.R. — Three people arrested for disobedience are now being investigated for their possible involvement in 17 armed robberies. Police said Saturday that all three are likely responsible for the string of convenience store robberies so far in January.

During patrols, the two adults and one minor were seen by police “disturbing the peace”. As they approached, the two adults began to hurl insults at officers.

Cancun police arrested them for “disobedience and resistance”. Since their arrests, authorities have learned they may be responsible for over a dozen armed robberies around the city.

They were taken into custody by National Guard, the Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) and Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security and Transit (SMSCyT).

“The events occurred during Operation “Blindaje Cancun” (Cancun Shield) in the vicinity of SM 216 where security personnel observed two men and a woman, along with a red and black Italika FT150 motorcycle without license plates, disturbing the peace,” Cancun police reported.

“Upon noticing the police presence, these individuals began hurling insults at the officers, displaying an aggressive attitude. Given their refusal to comply with the officers’ instructions and their defiant behavior, they were taken into custody.”

In custody are 19 year old Ángel Gustavo “N”, 23 year old Joanna Michell “N” and a minor. Police said “based on analysis and investigation, the detainees may be linked to at least 17 armed robberies of convenience stores in the city during January. The investigation is ongoing.”
