Police and Transit arrive in response to residential rage at ongoing lack of electricity

Cancun, Q.R. — A large group of angry residents took to the streets Tuesday night after being without power more than 24 hours. Residents from several apartment buildings in Residencial Turquesa blocked traffic on Girasoles Avenue until CFE arrived.

Hundreds of people had been without power since noon Monday June 9, 2026.

At least four residential streets were affected by the ongoing electrical fault that left hundreds of people without power. According to residents, their area lost power around noon Monday. Despite numerous reports to the CFE, nothing had been done.

Traffic was congested at the intersection of Diamante Street around 8:30 p.m. as the group protested their continued lack of electricity. They demanded an immediate solution from the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE).

A CFE inspector arrived at the scene to verify the power outage and informed residents a solution could take as long as three days. In response, the CFE employee was prevented from leaving the area, at which time police were called.

Angry residents refused to let the CFE inspector leave until a crew arrived to make the repairs June 9, 2026.

Municipal police arrived along with city Transit officers to move the group from the street and resume the flow of traffic. Pablo Gutiérrez Fernández, the Secretary General of the Benito Juarez City Council, also arrived to deal with the situation.

A CFE crew was reportedly sent to the residential area to make the repairs Tuesday night.
