Playa del Carmen woman released from 2018 murder accusations rearrested and charged

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Authorities say after correcting irregularities presented in the initial 2018 murder investigation, a woman has been charged. The State Attorney General (FGE) says Addy Candelaria “N” has been charged “for her probable connection to acts constituting the crime of femicide.”

Addy Candelaria “N” has been charged after in 2023, a judge issued a non-binding order, releasing Addy Candelaria “N” from custody. The FGE says she has been rearrested and charged for the February 2018 murder of a woman she is alleged to have bludgeoned to death.

“The defendant is being investigated for events that occurred on February 21, 2018 at a home on Monte Tanu and Los Sauces Street in the Bosque Real neighborhood. The victim was attacked on her face and head with a blunt object, causing serious injuries that led to her death,” authorities reported.

“In May 2023, a judge issued an arrest warrant for the accused, however, later, a non-binding order was issued determining that the information provided by the prosecutor’s office lacked scientific methodology.

“The victim’s mother, dissatisfied with the investigation, went to the National Human Rights Commission where she filed a complaint against previous FGE administration personnel.

“A public apology was issued and, in compliance with the recommendation of said body, the Specialized prosecutor’s office for Combating the Crime of Femicide conducted the corresponding investigations.
