Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Playa del Carmen is working with both Puerto Morelos and Tulum to strengthen municipal borders. Playa del Carmen Mayor Estefanía Mercado says she has had strategic meetings with the mayors of Tulum and Puerto Morelos to tighten security.

Mercado says meeting have been held with Tulum Mayor Diego Castañón and Puerto Morelos head Blanca Merari to improve surveillance within their shared territorial boundaries.
Mercado says it is important to recognize that the incidents occurring in neighboring municipalities have a direct impact on Playa del Carmen, especially in terms of security.
“The most important thing is to recognize that we have a border with Puerto Morelos and a border with Tulum. They are our siblings. Nearly everything that happens in those municipalities affects us directly,” she emphasized.
Mercado noted that work is already underway to create a “twinning” relationship with Tulum and that an invitation to Blanca Merari of Puerto Morelos will soon be formalized to consolidate a joint surveillance strategy at access checkpoints. The goal, she said, is to strengthen the security presence in the surrounding areas.
She says Playa del Carmen is willing to share its security strategies with neighboring municipalities as part of a regional collaborative effort to work together to address the challenges of crime.

She says with this, the municipal administration intends to build a united front that will protect citizens, strengthen crime prevention programs and ensure peace.
