PDC taxi driver arrested for attacking private car with tourists outside Riviera Maya theme park

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — One of two Playa del Carmen taxi drivers accused of attacking a private vehicle has been arrested. Daniel “N” was taken into police custody Tuesday after being videoed attacking a private vehicle he mistook for Uber.

The windshield of the private car was shattered by the two PDC taxi drivers who mistook it for an Uber.

He is one of two taxi drivers accused of the attack outside a Riviera Maya theme park in late November. As stated by Attorney General Raciel López Salazar, in Quintana Roo, the law is applied equally regardless of who is involved.

“On Tuesday afternoon, the State Attorney General’s Office arrested one of the taxi drivers involved in an assault on a motorist in events that occurred on November 22 of this year,” police reported.

Daniel “N”, was arrested by agents of the Investigative Police in the vicinity of 50 Avenida Norte. During an inspection, substances similar to marijuana and cocaine were found on him. He was placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office for his probable participation in drug dealing, they said.

“Initial investigations indicate that the man arrested is one of the taxi drivers who participated in the attack on a private vehicle, whose driver was mistaken for a digital platform service provider while at the entrance of an ecotourism park located in Riviera Maya.

“The attackers surrounded the private vehicle, threatened the driver and forced the tourists to get out of the car and into a taxi that was driven by the man arrested Tuesday,” police detailed in their statement.

After the start of the investigation, police were granted a warrant to search a Playa del Carmen taxi union building. During the November 27 search, two taxis were seized.
