Tulum, Q.R. — Paramedics confirmed the drowning death of a man on a Tulum beach Monday. The man entered the water from a beach inside the Jaguar National Park when he was almost immediately dragged out to sea.
Others watched as he struggled to return to shore. He was eventually pulled from the water and returned to the sand where CPR efforts were applied. Unfortunately, he did not respond.
He has been identified only as a non-Mexican man of approximately 60 years old.

The accident happened off Playa Mezzanine in the Parque Nacional del Jaguar of Tulum early Monday afternoon. According to initial reports, the man entered the water and became caught up in strong currents that pulled him out into deeper water.
Other swimmers alerted emergency services after noticing the man struggling to get back to shore. Paramedics and Civil Protection arrived at the scene around 1:30 p.m. and began recusation efforts, however, he was unresponsive.
The area was cordoned off while authorities conducted their investigation. Reports say he was alone at the beach at the time of the accident.
His body was transferred to the Forensic Medical Service for an autopsy and identification to notify next of kin.
