Tulum, Q.R. — Two men who have been formally charged in the attempted murder of a Venezuelan man are also facing murder charges. The men are accused of kidnapping their victim earlier this month and trying to strangle him to death.
Police say Alfredo “N” and Jacinto “N” have been charged “for their probable participation in acts possibly constituting the crime of attempted homicide against a male of Venezuelan nationality.”
According to the police investigation, on May 10 of this year, Alfredo “N” and Jacinto “N” abducted the man while he was driving near the Aldea Zama neighborhood in the town of Tulum.
They took the victim to a construction area near Kukulkán Avenue where they “placed a rope around the victim’s neck and then physically assaulted him with the intent to kill him, however, the victim managed to escape.”
Police say their investigation indicates that both men allegedly attempted to rob him and sexually assault him.
Their initial lines of investigation also link Alfredo “N” and Jacinto “N” to two other homicides.
One of those was of a man whose body was found in a state of decomposition in a wooded area of he La Veleta neighborhood on May 7 of this year.
The now-deceased man was living with Alfredo “N” and Jacinto “N” when, on May 2, they had an argument over a drug debt, police said.
“Subsequently, the victim was assaulted and taken to a wooded area where Alfredo “N” allegedly used a rock to strike him repeatedly in the head, causing his death.”

According to police, “the second attack occurred against another man, whose body was found in a green area of the La Veleta neighborhood.
“The investigation indicates that Alfredo “N” had an argument with the victim, then subdued him and suffocated him with a plastic bag until he died then abandoned the body in the undergrowth.”
