Cancun, Q.R. — More than a dozen vehicles were burned in a junkyard fire in a Cancun suburb Wednesday. The fire department were on scene for several hours as they battled flames.
Personnel from the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) were also called in to cut power when firemen realized the fire had damaged overhead lines. Cancun Civil Protection were also part of the emergency response team Wednesday to reports of the fire that started inside the junkyard.

According to Cancun Civil Protection, the fire started in a junkyard on López Portillo Avenue across from Plaza Lindavista.
“Our operational personnel provided support in emergency response, risk assessment, and security in the area while the fire was being brought under control.
“The fire was fully controlled and extinguished, with no injuries reported,” they said.
The fire happened inside the Del Caribe auto junkyard in the El Pedregal neighborhood Wednesday morning.
Thick black smoke rising from the site was reported to 9-1-1 by motorists Wednesday. There were no injuries reported.
According to available information, the fire started in a weedy area adjacent to the junkyard and quickly spread. The Cancun fire department said approximately 15 vehicles inside the fenced property burned as a result of the fire.
“Cancun Firefighters responded to a fire at a vehicle lot located in the Alfredo V. Bonfil ejido area, on López Portillo Avenue. Upon arrival, they found a fire involving approximately 15 abandoned vehicles,” Bomberos Cancun said in a statement.
“Containment and firefighting maneuvers were immediately implemented to prevent the fire from spreading to other areas and to keep the emergency under control.
“Thanks to the coordinated efforts of the Cancun Fire Department units, the fire was largely contained. Extinguishing and cooling operations continued to eliminate any risk of reignition.

“Cancun Civil Protection personnel, Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) staff, who cut off power due to damage to medium-voltage lines, and members of the National Defense Secretariat (SEDENA) also participated in the emergency response, reinforcing security measures at the site. No injuries were reported.”
A cause is still under investigation.
