Cancun, Q.R. — Hundreds of passengers who were left stranded at the Cancun International Airport have finally arrived home. On Monday, the group of travelers on a TUI flight departed the airport after a two-day delay.
According to sources, 305 people were left stranded when crews discovered a technical issue with the plane after the plane had been boarded.
The incident happened Saturday when Flight OR822 was canceled due to the undisclosed issue prior to takeoff. The plane was scheduled to depart Cancun International May 9 for Amsterdam at the time the technical problem was found.
All 305 people were removed from the plane and left to wait in the Cancun airport when their 14:20 flight was scrubbed for the day.
The flight, operated by a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, was scheduled to land at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol 6:50 the following morning, May 10. However, with the discovery of the technical issue, passengers were left in the Cancun airport to wait for replacement transportation.

According to a flight update by the Schiphol airport, Flight OR822 finally landed in Amsterdam May 11 at 17:20 Amsterdam time.
TUI lands at the Cancun International Airport every Saturday. A flight from Cancun to Amsterdam takes approximately 13 hours on TUI, including a two hour stopover in Cuba.
The airline did not provide any information on the technical issue that caused the two-day delay.
