Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Under the current administration, the United States has extradited 313 criminals wanted by authorities back to Mexico. U.S. Ambassador Ronald Johnson says criminals wanted by Mexican authorities have been returned to the country.

The latest of those returned was Tuesday when U.S. authorities handed over a Mexican national wanted for child prostitution and sexual assault.
“U.S. Border Patrol authorities in the Rio Grande Valley captured and handed over a Mexican citizen wanted in Mexico for child prostitution and sexual assault,” he said Tuesday.
“During the Trump Administration, the United States has transferred 313 individuals wanted by justice to Mexico so they can face the consequences of their actions.
“This case represents yet another example of the strong cooperation driven by
POTUS, Donald Trump and President Claudia Sheinbaum. Together, we bring criminals to justice and make our nations safer.”
According to the U.S. Ambassador to Mexico, Ronald Johnson, the handovers are part of the bilateral security cooperation between the Trump administration and that of President Claudia Sheinbaum.
According to data from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, between January 2018 and May 13 of this year, Mexico had requested the extradition of 269 people, with 36 requests being rejected and no progress in other cases.
Among the cases mentioned by President Sheinbaum is that of the former governor of Tamaulipas, Francisco Javier García Cabeza de Vaca, who is being investigated for organized crime and the illicit use of power and abuse of authority.
