Officials removed a dozen mistreated and malnourished horses from Tulum tourist park

Tulum, Q.R. — A dozen horses were rescued from a tourist park in Tulum Tuesday after reports of abuse and malnutrition. All 12 animals displayed signs of mistreatment and were lead away by municipal authorities to a care facility.

The animals were removed from the Adrenaline Tours park in the municipality of Tulum Tuesday morning. The intervention was the result of an anonymous complaint about animal abuse and cruelty in the park.

“They use them for tours and they are really in very bad shape. Several horses have already died there. The poor animals don’t receive the necessary care,” read part of the complaint.

The rescue was led by personnel from the Directorate of Inspection and Collection in coordination with municipal areas in charge of animal protection of Tulum.

During the Tuesday inspection, environmental officials found the horses lacked food and water. Four were found with visible injuries and all lacked horseshoes.

According to the official report, all 12 horses were also listed with a high degree of malnutrition and the presence of ticks.

The animals were found in poor condition and removed from the park, which has since been shut down. June 2, 2026.

The horses were lead out of the park and transferred to a care center to receive medical veterinary treatment and shelter for their recovery. Once all the animals were removed, municipal officials proceeded to close the tourist park.
