Officials inaugurate new National Guard General Coordination of Security in Cancun

Cancun, Q.R. — The new General Coordination of Security of the National Guard in Cancun facility has been inaugurated in Cancun. Governor Mara Lezama says the facility is a strategic infrastructure that will strengthen the surveillance and protection of priority projects.

Governor Mara Lezama, along with the state coordinator of the National Guard, Brigadier General Sergio López Acosta, participated in the inauguration of the facilities Tuesday.

The General Coordination of Security of the National Guard in Cancun was officially opened with a ribbon cutting and plaque unveiling. Lezama stated that this new coordination represents a fundamental step for building peace in Quintana Roo and throughout the region.

“This investment strengthens peacebuilding in our state,” she said, acknowledging the coordinated work between the National Guard, the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of the Navy, state and municipal corporations, as well as the support of the Government of Mexico headed by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.

She said he new facility will increase the operational, logistical and administrative capacity of the National Guard in one of the most economically important areas of Mexico.

The Governor explained that this facility will have under its responsibility two railway security battalions. One tourist security battalion and one airport security battalion, which together total more than 4,000 personnel deployed to safeguard strategic infrastructure.

Mara Lezama also highlighted that the railway battalions will protect the 1,554 kilometers of track of the Maya Train, as well as its 34 stations, contributing to safe mobility between Quintana Roo, Yucatán, Campeche, Chiapas, and Tabasco.

Sergio López Acosta highlighted that the creation of the General Coordination of Security will allow the protection of strategic national projects such as the Maya Train, the Tulum International Airport and the Felipe Ángeles International Airport, in addition to strengthening connectivity, economic development and social welfare.

The military command indicated that the installation of this coordination center in Quintana Roo responds to the strategic role of the state as a gateway to international tourism and an economic engine of southeastern Mexico, consolidating the institutional presence of the State to guarantee the security of the works that promote regional development.
