Cancun, Q.R. — Two police officers have been separated from their duties after a Cancun shooting Friday night. The two officers, who have not been named, were removed from their positions Saturday for “possible failure to provide assistance,” Policia Cancun reported.

On Friday night, a family of three were pulling up to their house when they were fired upon. The male driver, his wife and his 10-month-old-daughter were shot. All three were rushed to hospital by people from the scene after an ambulance failed to arrive.
Upon arrival at the hospital, they were transferred from that hospital to another hospital able to treat gunshot wounds. The father died. The mother and 10-month-old girl remain in hospital.
The targeted attack happened outside their home on Emiliano Zapata Street in SM 240. After the shooting when Municipal Police officers were cordoning off the scene, area residents pointed out two hooded individuals who drove by on a motorcycle.

They were identified by the residents as those responsible for the shooting, however, the on-site police officers did not act and no arrests were made.
In a statement Saturday, Cancun Police reported “the 10-month-old girl injured in an armed attack in Region 240 is receiving multidisciplinary care at the General Hospital. Two police officers were separated for possible failure to provide assistance. Authorities are already investigating the incident.”

According to the police statement, both officers are being investigated for failing to provide assistance. A motive for the attack is unknown.
