Tulum, Q.R. — Two public transportation drivers in Tulum have been suspended for a month. The pair were reprimanded after bystanders videoed them fighting on the federal 307 highway Thursday.
The two men, both public transport drivers, were seen slapping, kicking, swinging fists and chasing one another during a brawl. The pair began arguing when they were pulled up next to each other at a marked point along the highway.
One driver is seen approaching the other where tempers quickly flared and arms began to flail. The two men chased one another toward the front of their vans where they embraced and fought for several minutes.
Finally separating, both started to return to their vehicles when a second chase ensued, resulting in both falling to the ground where they continued to fight.

The second altercation happened at the entrance to a hotel and was watched by local residents, guests and other drivers. Both were eventually pulled apart by spectators, while several others continued to video the ongoing incident.
The drivers were from the Unión Nacional de Transportistas del Cambio (Untrac) and Tiburones del Caribe. After videos of the altercation went viral, the Quintana Roo State Mobility Institute (Imoveqroo) issued a statement announcing both men had been identified and suspended.
According to the Imoveqroo statement, the state agency imposed a 30-day suspension to the operators involved, including the retention of their driver’s licenses.
The Instituto de Movilidad del Estado de Quintana Roo (Imoveqroo) also said that the union leaders from both of the companys involved have been notifieid of their driver’s behavoir and, in accordance with the law, rules are expcted to be enforced.

“Imoveqroo reaffirms its commitment to road safety, order, and legality, and warns that any violent or irresponsible behavior on public transportation will be severely punished,” the statement read.
