New Year’s Express: Maya Train starts long distance travel with New Year’s package

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — The Governor of Quintana Roo says the Maya Train is ready to start offering long distance travel. Train travelers will be able to begin taking long distance trips starting New Year’s Eve.

“The Long Distance Maya Train begins operations with a special “New Year’s Express” package designed to showcase the best of southeastern Mexico in a single trip,” announced Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa.

“The journey begins with the arrival of visitors at Tulum International Airport where they are welcomed to one of the most iconic destinations in the Mexican Caribbean,” she said.

The first long distance Tren Maya trip will take tourists to the Mayan ruins of Tulum located on the shores of the Caribbean Sea, as well as the Mundo Maya Tulum Hotel, Jaguar Park and the Regional Museum of the East Coast.

The itinerary continues to Cancun where travelers can enjoy a special dinner to celebrate the arrival of the New Year framed by the renowned hospitality and varied gastronomic offer that distinguishes this world-class tourist destination.

As the final leg of the journey, the Long Distance Maya Train connects with the city of Mérida, Yucatán and includes a visit to the port of Progreso and the Meteorite Museum, combining culture, nature and technology in a single trip.

The tour package offers affordable prices and includes lodging, train transfers and flights, providing four days of unique experiences and a historic journey that marks a turning point in the region’s tourism mobility.

“With spectacular landscapes, rich Mayan culture, museums, gastronomy and top-notch service, Quintana Roo invites national and international tourists to be part of this inaugural trip and experience an unforgettable New Year with the promise of welcoming them, as always, with open arms,” Governor Lezama said.

The four day and three night trip travels December 29 to January 1, 2026. Tren Maya says “your experience begins with your arrival in Tulum, either flying from AIFA or directly from the city, to stay at the Mundo Maya Hotel and enjoy a welcome dinner surrounded by nature and serenity.

“The following day, after a hearty breakfast, you’ll explore the Tulum archaeological zone and the Regional Museum of the East Coast before transferring by a regular Maya Train. You’ll arrive in Cancun to relax and enjoy the hotel’s amenities.

“On the third day, after breakfast, you’ll board the new Maya Train Long Distance to Mérida for a magical pre-New Year’s celebration culminating in a special dinner and a celebratory toast. Finally, the first day of the year will begin with a delicious breakfast, followed by a visit to Puerto Progreso and the Meteorite Museum, concluding your trip with a transfer to Mérida Airport.”

Tren Maya offers numerous long distance travel packages around its southern route. Travel packages range from three to six nights, touring different parts of Mexico’s south.
