Cancun, Q.R. — A recruit who was in the process of being cleared for a Cancun Transit job has had a member of the force jailed. Police say Luis Alberto “N” was arrested for extorting a new recruitment candidate of 25,000 pesos.
He was arrested on a warrant after the new recruit filed a complaint against him for trying to extort her of 25,000 pesos to alter exam paperwork.
The incident happened earlier this week when the officer met with the new recruit to inform her she had failed her entrance exams. In exchange for altering the paperwork, he wanted 25,000 pesos.
“According to initial investigations, the victim was in the process of being recruited by the Benito Juárez Public Security and Transit Secretariat for which she underwent background checks and polygraph examinations during the first days of February of this year,” the FGE said.
“Later, in April, the accused summoned the victim to a fast-food restaurant to inform her that she had failed the exams. He demanded 25,000 pesos in exchange for altering the results.

“However, the woman refused to pay and stated that she would go to the appropriate authorities to verify the information.
“Faced with this situation, Luis Alberto “N” threatened to do whatever was necessary to have her permanently barred from holding any government position.”
Authorities said after the complaint was filed, the FGE opened an investigation and obtained an arrest warrant that was executed by members of the Investigative Police.
