New Álvaro Obregón Avenue overpass of Chetumal to open in coming days

Chetumal, Q.R. — The new overpass being constructed at the entrance to Chetumal is nearing completion and scheduled to open in coming days. Governor Mara Lezama was on the bridge Thursday, which has been closed to traffic for more than a year.

On Friday, she reported that the overpass on Álvaro Obregón Avenue, the gateway to Chetumal, will be opened before Christmas. Governor Lezama confirmed that it is practically ready and there is very little time left before it is inaugurated.

This is a very important project for the state capital, she said. It is a 280-meter roadway and will benefit more than 233,000 people as well as visitors who come to Chetumal.

“The bridge on Álvaro Obregón Avenue is being built so you can enter our capital, very close to the Maya Train station, Quintana Roo Park, which is managed by Sedena as part of the complementary projects of the social justice train,” explained the Governor.

Mara Lezama said that it is one of the many priority projects that she negotiated with the federal government. She stated that the Maya Train is an emblematic project that transforms the connectivity of the southeast of the country and that it promotes the economic, social and cultural development of the state, including rural localities that were previously forgotten, opening up sources of work and strengthening the social fabric.

The Governor stressed that this new bridge will be accessible to people from Highway 186 and Highway 307, which is about to be completed and thus fulfill the promise of opening it this December.

Work is being done on details of railings, asphalt, painting and detailing of curbs. It is 97 percent complete.

“In this different government we do not lie, we do not steal, we do not betray and we keep our word. We are going to inaugurate this historic entrance to Álvaro Obregón and this bridge is going to look spectacular,” Mara Lezama concluded.
