Cancun, Q.R. — Cancun’s up and coming Kukulcan distributor road system is nearly 30 percent finished. Over the weekend, officials toured the 484 million peso construction site where the overpass is being built.

Governor Mara Lezama conducted a tour of the Kukulcan Road Distributor, a strategic project by the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT). She said the project is close to 30 percent complete and will strengthen mobility towards the Cancun International Airport, the Nichupté Vehicular Bridge and the Cancun Hotel Zone.
During the visit, the Governor said the federal project is an investment of 484 million pesos and thanked President Claudia Sheinbaum for her support in promoting infrastructure that addresses the growth of Cancun.
Governor Lezama explained that the project will expedite vehicular traffic on one of the main access roads to the city, reducing travel times for both residents and visitors.
Currently, the work is focused on erecting the columns after the foundation and the preparation of the footings. In addition, the underground infrastructure works related to drinking water and drainage networks are being carried out.
The Kukulcán Road Distributor will have an overpass made up of two separate sections. One section will be built with two lanes of traffic in one direction and the other with one lane in the opposite direction.
The project will also include side streets for local traffic, bus stops and pedestrian crossings that will provide greater safety for users.
Among the main benefits of the infrastructure are the reduction of the risk of accidents, greater capacity and efficiency in the access and exit of the Nichupté Vehicular Bridge, as well as a better response in case of environmental contingencies in the tourist area.

The Governor reiterated that this project consolidates the transformation of Quintana Roo’s highway infrastructure and strengthens connectivity in the country’s main tourist destination.
