Chetumal, Q.R. — The new CFE Oxtanlah substation being built in the city of Chetumal is expected to be operational next year. Governor Mara Lezama says the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) substation that began construction five months ago will be put into use at the end of 2026.
She says the new power plant will be completed next year as part of the planned strengthening of the electrical energy infrastructure for the state capital.
The governor explained that the Federal Electricity Commission is constructing the new substation for approximately 166 million pesos. Once complete, it will ensure a stable supply of electricity and reduce power outages.
“We have the Oxtanlah substation project whose construction began in August and will be completed in December of next year at which point it will become operational.

“It’s an investment of 166 million pesos and is something we are doing as part of Chetumal’s growth. The supply of electricity is fundamental and will benefit the residents of our capital,” she stated.
According to Governor Lezama, the completed substation will help stabilize electricity for more than 53,000 Chetumal residents by strengthening the capacity and reliability of the service.
She reported that for the following year, work is underway to implement more projects and consolidate public projects, reiterating that the state capital remains a priority for its long-term development.
“Better things are coming for our state capital. We are working hard on it. Several projects have been presented to me, and that’s what we’re doing. continuing to invest in Chetumal, to advocate for Chetumal, which is and always will be our capital,” she said.
