Tulum, Q.R. — Nearly 100 million pesos has been invested in educational institutions in Tulum. On Tuesday, officials inaugurated a preschool and primary school. The 30 million spent for their construction will provide an education facility to 270 young students.
Governor Mara Lezama was on hand for the inauguration of the two schools in the Aldea Tulum subdivision of Tulum Tuesday.
“This is a different government, that fights corruption, that is transparent so that the money goes for more, to invest it where it is most needed and in education it will never be considered an expense,” said the Governor.
During her visit to the schools, Lezama sat with the girls and boys. The event took place at the Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz New Creation Primary School where some of the children gave her drawings.
According to José Lara Díaz, head of Instituto de Infraestructura Física Educativa del Estado de Quintana Roo, the investment in the preschool building was 11.1 million pesos, including work and equipment and will benefit 60 students.
In the primary school, 18.8 million pesos was invested for the benefit of 210 students.
Tulum Mayor Diego Castañón, welcomed authorities and announced his commitment to building a dome for the schools.
On Tuesday, both Mayor Diego Castañón and Governor Lezama also toured the under-construction university. Lezama visited the project and verified the progress of the second stage of this building that when built, will house more than 600 students.
The Technological University, in which so far more than 68 million pesos has been invested, will benefit more than 600 students who currently receive classes at the House of Culture, Lezama pointed out.
She was accompanied by Rafael Lara Díaz, the Secretary of Education, Carlos Gorocica Moreno, Mayor Diego Castañón and the Director of the UT, Carlos Mario Uc Sosa.
“It is a highly anticipated university with an investment like never before of 68 million pesos, because when corruption is fought, there is enough for more. In education, resources are not spent they are invested, as is very clear in the New Agreement by the Welfare and Development of Quintana Roo” Lezama stated.
During the first stage, an investment of 29.1 million pesos was applied and currently a second stage is being carried out with resources of more than 39 million pesos that will allow the consolidation of the educational infrastructure.
Once finished, UT Tulum will have 15 teaching classrooms, a cooking laboratory, a computer laboratory, an administration laboratory, an auditorium, and a solar panel system, among others.
