National Guard arrest “foreign national” inside Cancun airport transporting 1.2 million worth of ketamine

Cancun, Q.R. — A man found transporting 1.2 million pesos in ketamine was arrested Tuesday inside Cancun International. The “foreign national” has not been named, nor has his nationality been made public.

The man, who appears to be in his mid-30s, was taken into custody by National Guard after a Customs scan found the substance inside plastic bottles. According to the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) of Mexico, ketamine is a controlled psychotropic substance.

The arrest took place July 15 inside the airport during a luggage scan. The substance was found inside food bottles labeled as natural products. While ketamine is not considered a narcotic, it is a controlled substance under the Controlled Substances Act due to its hallucinogenic properties.

The SSPC said that the traveler was found in possession of two kilos after landing at Cancun International.
