Chetumal, Q.R. — Authorities have removed nearly a dozen people from what was supposed to be an addiction treatment centre in Chetumal. Personnel from the State Attorney General’s Office were lead to the establishment due to a murder investigation.
Police were investigating the murder of a woman which lead them to the Chetumal address of an alleged addiction treatment centre. Inside nine adults and two teenagers, all females, were rescued from the centre.
Police searched the Palermo Street building Thursday after the recent death of a woman. The woman was found dead inside the centre days before. Her body showed signs of physical violence.
“As a result of investigative acts initiated for events possibly constituting the crime of femicide, Investigative Police executed a search warrant for a property allegedly dedicated to providing treatment for addictions, where they rescued 11 women,” the FGE reported.
“After the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating the Crime of Femicide learned that, at the aforementioned site located on Palermo Street in Chetumal, a female person was dead and showed possible signs of violence, it began an investigation in which it gathered the necessary elements that allowed it to request and obtain from a judge the corresponding search warrant.
“The agents involved in the investigation found various clues to be included in the investigation. They also rescued 11 women: nine adult women and two teenagers. The minors were placed under the protection of the Office of the Attorney for the Protection of Girls, Boys, Adolescents and the Family in Chetumal,” the agency explained.
The building has since been shut down. There was not mention of arrests.
