More than 700 breast cancer survivors receive free prostheses

Othón P. Blanco, Q.R. — During the current administration, more than 700 female breast cancer survivors have received free protheses and bras. On Sunday, 66 prostheses and 124 bras were provided for a group of women in the municipality of Othón P. Blanco.

Governor Mara Lezama led the delivery of the breast prostheses in support for female cancer survivors Sunday.

During the event, 66 breast prostheses and 124 orthopedic bras were delivered to women from Othón P. Blanco who suffered from breast cancer. Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa emphasized that more than medical support, they also receive a tool to reconnect with their bodies.

“We are a government that listens, that attends, that walks, that solves, because behind each number there is a human being, a woman, a mother, a grandmother, a cousin, a godmother, and what we want is for them to be alive and healthy,” the Governor said.

Regarding health, prevention and early detection, she encouraged all women to perform self-exams. She announced that a state-of-the-art CT scanner is about to be delivered to the Oncology Hospital in Chetumal, allowing them to serve more women.

The women were assisted with free breast prostheses and bras Sunday December 14, 2025.

She said that the money allocated to health is an investment. “We are not going to stop. We are going for more mammograms, laboratory tests, electrocardiograms, dental care. We are going to help them in everything they need,” she said.

Accompanied by the honorary president of the Quintana Roo DIF System, Verónica Lezama Espinosa, and the General Director of the Administration of Public Charity Assets, Claudia Gómez Verduzco, Governor Lezama said that during the current administration, 711 women throughout the state have received the prostheses.

Verónica Lezama acknowledged the intense and continuous struggle of the women who received this support today, “brave women who have fought, resisted, cried, and who have risen again.

“We come to honor their stories because we know that breast cancer, in addition to being a physical battle, is also a battle of the soul, that is why I hope they receive this support for what it is: a sincere embrace, a message that says they are not alone, that there is a humanist government here that always walks by their side,” she said.

The group of cancer survivors were provided with their pink packages Sunday.

Claudia Gómez reported that the prostheses and bras were obtained through the efforts of Governor Mara Lezama with federal support through Public Welfare. On Sunday, the program wrapped up for the year. The prostheses packages are provided free of charge.
