Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Six people who had been reported missing from a company motorbike excursion have been found. The six people, all men, were located in the neighboring municipality of Lázaro Cárdenas.

The group left Xph-Ha and headed west for an afternoon jungle excursion Sunday. They were reported missing after they were not heard from for several hours. One of the motorbike participants, 17 year old Canadian Thomas Luis, had an Amber Alert released by the FGE Monday for his disappearance prior to being located by a search team.

The group were found during a coordinated search effort involving state authorities. “In coordination with the State Citizen Security Secretariat, Municipal Citizen Security Secretariat and the Secretariat of Civil Protection, Risk Prevention and Firefighters, searchers located six people in the Ejido Constituyentes del 74 in the municipality of Lázaro Cárdenas,” state authorities reported.
“The group went on a motorcycle excursion through the jungle Sunday and contact with them was lost,” authorities reported Monday afternoon.
“The six people, including the company owner, were part of an excursion led by the Pirates of Texas Charter company located in the Puerto Aventuras complex, and went into the jungle on the west side of the federal highway, across from Xpu-ha.

“After several hours without hearing from them and after a search operation was launched, information was obtained about their location in Ejido Constituyentes del 74 (municipality of Lázaro Cárdenas), so the elements participating in the search went to the scene to provide assistance,” they said.
Quintana Roo Civil Protection also released a statement. “The Secretariat of Civil Protection, Risk Prevention, and Firefighters, in coordination with the state and municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security, launched a rescue operation that resulted in the location of six people who had been missing since yesterday in the community of Constituyentes del 74.

“According to the report, the residents left the community of Xpu-ha on motorcycles heading toward the town of Ignacio Zaragoza, however, they lost contact hours later. After receiving the report, emergency services initiated ground and air search protocols with the support of the Aguila 2 helicopter from the Quintana Roo SSC.
“After their rescue, they received pre-hospital care and were escorted to a safe area to reunite with their families.

Search and rescue personnel did not say how or why the group lost communication with their home base. All six were found to be in good health.
