Mexico City, Mexico — President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo announced a new increased minimum wage for Mexican workers in the New Year. She announced that in agreement with the labor and business sectors, and for the benefit of 8.5 million workers, the general minimum wage will see a 13 percent increase starting January 1, 2026.

She says the country’s minimum wage will increase from 315.04 pesos per day ($17.24 USD) to 440.87 pesos ($24.13 USD) per day.
She reported that currently, minimum wage earners taken home 9,582.47 pesos ($524.45 USD) per month, and 5 percent in the Northern Border Free Zone (ZLFN) to 13,409.80 pesos ($733.93 USD) per month.
“We have very good news. An agreement between the business sector and the workers of Mexico. Two major agreements that we reached by consensus, unanimously. One, an increase in the minimum wage and two, a gradual reduction to a 40-hour workweek,” she said Wednesday.

The President thanked business leaders for their unanimous support in increasing the minimum wage and noted that it will not impact inflation.
“For years it was said that the minimum wage couldn’t be raised, that it would cause inflation, that there would be no more foreign investment in the country and yet we have record levels of foreign investment.
“There has been no inflation and the minimum wage has increased by 154 percent since 2018,” she added.
Marath Baruch Bolaños López, the Secretary of Labor and Social Welfare, explained that the purchasing power of Mexican workers has increased by 154 percent under the government, while on the border, it remains above the historical maximum, which means that access to basic food will increase from 1.8 in 2025 to 2.0 in 2026 and on the border to 2.8.

Francisco Cervantes Díaz, President of the Business Coordinating Council (CCE), said the business sector and the Government of Mexico have shown willingness and a special openness to negotiate conditions that favor the different groups of the population, particularly the most vulnerable.
The new minimum wage across the country will begin January 1, 2026.
