Tulum, Q.R. — A seaside foot patrol over the weekend resulted in the discovery of a sack of cocaine bricks. The bag was found hung up on limestone on a rocky beach area of Tulum Saturday.
Members of the National Guard located the bag, which inside, contained approximately 25 kilograms of cocaine.
The discovery was made during a security and crime prevention tour in the Punta Sur reef area Tulum.
“National Guard noticed that there was a broken sack among the rocks, from which several packages wrapped in plastic were sticking out. In anticipation of a possible crime, they cordoned off the area and established a security perimeter.
“Inside the bag, they found 25 packages wrapped in plastic and paper, measuring approximately 24 by 13 centimeters, which weighed approximately one kilogram per package. Upon checking the contents, they detected white powder with the characteristics of the narcotic known as cocaine, so they were seized,” the agency explained in an official statement.
The drug was made available to the Attorney General’s Office based in the municipality of Solidaridad to determine its exact type and weight which will be added to ongoing corresponding investigations.
