Tulum, Q.R. — Tulum Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo says meetings with tourism officials are continuing to improve access to beaches and review fees being charged. He says meetings have also been held with public works to improve Tulum’s infrastructure. He says the goal is to ensure balanced development of the destination.

“Tulum continues to make steady progress toward orderly tourism development that benefits our people and preserves the essence that makes us unique,” he stated Monday.
“I thank the Secretary of Tourism, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora and our Governor Mara Lezama for their support and commitment to Tulum. Their support strengthens the work we are doing to consolidate a fairer and more sustainable tourism.
“We continue to build agreements in meetings with federal, state and municipal agencies to improve access to the beaches as well as to review fees charged to domestic and international tourists.
“Tulum continues to move forward with firm steps towards orderly tourism development that benefits our people and preserves the essence that makes us unique,” he said Monday after a third meeting.

On Monday, Governor Lezama also commented after the state’s third meeting with federal officials. “The working groups are spaces where ideas are transformed into real actions. This is where we build the future we want for Tulum: with order, vision, and results that people can feel in their daily lives.
“I thank federal authorities for their support and coordination, which makes it possible for these advancements to reach every corner of the municipality. We continue working together, with energy and commitment, so that Tulum shines brighter than ever.”
Last week, Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo also met with the ministry of public works to discuss municipal infrastructure projects. He said the meeting was held to review projects that will strengthen the municipality’s interconnectivity.
“At the Tulum City Hall, we continue to work hand in hand with the state government. I met with the team from the Ministry of Public Works, headed by Architect Rafael Lara, along with Mr. Diego Cortés, Mr. Miguel Tlapa García and Brayan Echeverría to review projects that will strengthen the connectivity and infrastructure of our municipality.
“I also thank my team, Christian Moguel and Víctor Manuel Hernández, for their commitment. We continue to work in unity with our governor and her team, moving towards a more orderly, modern and sustainable Tulum,” he said.

On Monday, state officials met again with federal authorities regarding the Tulum tourism crisis. Both sides are working to address issues that have lead to the plunge in visitors including a lack of free beach access, excessive charges to tourist sites and a lack of municipal infrastructure.
