Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — The town of Puerto Morelos has begun construction of a linear park. The park will be built in SM 19 at a cost of just over 9.5 million pesos.
Mayor Blanca Merari says construction of the linear park in Superblock 19 of Puerto Morelos will transform an underutilized and deteriorating area. The area will be transformed into a functional, safe and aesthetically pleasing public space.
Blanca Merari describes the project as crucial to improving the quality of life for families in Puerto Morelos, especially those living in the area behind the plaza known as Super Aki, between Federal Highway 307 and Joaquín Zetina Gasca Avenue.
The mayor explained that an investment of 9,534,877 pesos will be allocated for construction of the park, resources with which a currently underutilized and deteriorated space will be transformed into a functional, safe and visually attractive public environment, designed for the well-being of the community.

Blanca Merari explained that the creation of this green corridor will promote non-motorized transportation, reduce the risk of accidents, generate spaces for social interaction and mitigate the negative effects of urban growth.
“With this project we are directly contributing to the recovery of public spaces, fostering a sense of belonging and strengthening the social fabric,” she said.
Blanca Merari stated that the project will positively impact the quality of life of the inhabitants of Puerto Morelos through the recovery and dignification of public space, as well as with the creation of a linear park that promotes sustainable mobility, recreation and community coexistence.
“We will have a safe and functional corridor, with sidewalks and a bike path for the benefit of pedestrians and cyclists. In addition, green areas and recreational spaces will be integrated with the planting of trees and native vegetation that will improve air quality and create shaded areas,” she explained.
Mario Salinas Castro, the Secretary of Public Works, pointed out that this avenue, located in Superblock 19, is one of the main arteries of the city, however, it lacks adequate infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists, such as sidewalks, bike lanes, lighting and green areas.
This situation, he indicated, has generated various problems for the population, including insecurity, a lack of recreational spaces, the risk of traffic accidents, and the perception of a neglected urban environment.
Furthermore, the lack of proper waste management has led to the area being used as a garbage dump, negatively impacting the quality of life of those who live there.
The official specified that the direct beneficiaries of the project will be more than 2,500 residents of Superblock 19 and surrounding areas, while indirectly the positive impact will extend to the entire community of Puerto Morelos and to visitors who travel along the avenue, by contributing to a more attractive and functional urban image.

The site will be furnished with street furniture such as benches, trash cans and lighting to ensure a comfortable and safe space for users. Physical activity and sports will also be promoted through the planting of grass and the creation of walkways and areas for outdoor exercise.
According to the project, citizen participation and ownership of the space will also be promoted through community activities and events, while the LED lighting system will ensure safety at night.
