Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — The municipal government of Isla Mujeres continues with island restoration and rehabilitation projects. In the last three months, 110 streetlights have been repaired on the island.

According to the Public Lighting Department, 110 lamps have been repaired on the island of which 40 have been replaced and 15 installed in new locations. In the Continental Zone, 250 lamps have been repaired and 26 new lamps have been installed.

Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde says through the Public Lighting Department, street lamps are being replaced and repaired with the goal of optimizing resources, improving lighting and strengthening security in public spaces.

She says through this permanent program, the Public Lighting Department conducts tours throughout the municipality to locate damaged lamps and be able to attend to them as soon as possible.

On the ground, construction and rehabilitation of sidewalks, curbs and paving of streets continues. Ricalde says they are currently working in the island neighborhoods of La Caribeña, Salina Chica, Cañotal and La Gloria.

“Through the General Directorate of Public Works, a comprehensive program is implemented to serve the  neighborhoods and thus provide greater road safety to pedestrians,” she said.

“The neighbors told us the importance of attending to these roads during our tours in the streets. Today, we are fulfilling our promise because working together allows us to transform Isla Mujeres,” she added.
