Marina supports capsized boat in search and rescue mission between Cancun and Isla Mujeres

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — The Mexican Navy, acting as Coast Guard, provided support to a boat that capsized between Cancun and Isla Mujeres Thursday. Three people that were onboard were dumped into the sea after a strong wave overturned their boat.

On Friday, the Marina reported that through the Fifth Naval Region, naval personnel provided support during the search for a small vessel near Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo.

This search was carried out after receiving a report at the Isla Mujeres Naval Search, Rescue, and Maritime Surveillance Station (ENSAR) regarding the loss of communication with a small vessel.

The boat was carrying three crew when it capsized February 5, 2026.

The vessel, 22-foot-long Guajirita, capsized due to a strong wave. On board were three crew members that lost communication. The boat belonged to the Patria y Progreso cooperative.

In a Friday statement, the Marina of Mexico said “therefore, an MLB vessel from ENSAR Isla Mujeres was immediately dispatched, locating the vessel, which was capsized between Punta Cancún and Punta Sur of Isla Mujeres.

“Two of the crew members were located by a vessel from the same cooperative. The third person swam to shore. All were found to be in good health,” they said.
