Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Residents of the Continental Zone of Isla Mujeres are a week away from having their first public buses. On Monday, Isla Mujeres Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde unveiled what will be the mainland’s first city bus system.
The five urban transportation buses will operate in the Continental Zone next Monday with the aim of improving mobility in the municipality for the benefit of students and workers of Ciudad Mujeres.
Ricalde said on November 4, the company Isleños will implement the new 13 routes of the urban transportation service in Ciudad Mujeres, offering another alternative to residents.
Alejandra Peniche Hernández, the Director of Transportation, toured with the concessioned bus company on what will be the offered routes.
“The company will have five new units to provide service in the Continental Zone with 13 stops from Monday to Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.,” said Peniche Hernández.

The municipal official said that these new routes will leave every hour and the end points will be where the welcome sign to Isla Mujeres is located and the return point on the extension of Rancho Viejo Avenue, at the height of the fair.
She added that the bus fares will be 10 pesos for adults and 5 pesos for students, senior citizens and people with disabilities. The Director of Transportation added that the new units will travel a total of 11 kilometers and depending on their demand, they could be extended to Saturdays and Sundays.
