Tulum, Q.R. — The main suspect in the abduction and subsequent murder of a Tulum man has been sentenced. On Wednesday, police reported on the 37 year sentence handed down to Wilberth Iván de la Torre Martínez.
Wilberth Iván de la Torre Martínez, alias Yomi, was found guilty of aggravated homicide in the January 21, 2024 murder of an unidentified Tulum man.
According to police, Wilberth Iván de la Torre Martínez, in the company of two other, went to the victim’s home in the Yax-Tulum neighborhood and forcibly removed him from his home.
He was then transferred to a property located in Felipe Carrillo Puerto.
“There, the assailants interrogated the man and beat him with a board, accusing him of having ties to a criminal group. They then killed him and placed his remains in a black bag, which they abandoned at the Chumpón intersection bus stop,” in the municipality of Felipe Carrillo Puerto, police said.
“The investigations established that the motive for the attack was related to drug dealing activities.”
Police say Wilberth Iván de la Torre Martínez was sentenced to 37 years and six months for his role in the beating and murder of the Tulum man.
