Mahahual, Q.R. — Years-long land title disputes could soon come to an end for some areas of Mahahual. Ongoing land disputes due to a lack of property titles has been a problem for many Mahahual residents and is an issue being addressed by the state
The Quintana Roo State Strategic Projects Agency (Agepro) says they are making headway with the problem. José Alberto Alonso Ovando, who heads Agencia de Proyectos Estratégicos del Estado de Quintana Roo (Agepro), says they have recently received numerous documents.
He says the documents issued by the state prove land lot ownership to many living in the town’s irregular areas. The titles prove ownership, which means those occupying those lots cannot be evicted.
“Numerous documentation have been received for the regularization of lots in the various neighborhoods providing legal certainty and improving the quality of life of citizens,” Alonso Ovando said.
The regularization of the irregular areas and the documentation of land title is part of a new state program managed by Agepro. The program is run through the Coordination of Territorial Reserves in collaboration with the Directorate of Territorial Management and the Department of Agrarian Affairs.
It focuses on privately owned assets that form part of the state’s assets under the responsibility of Agepro.
Alonso Ovando says the process is essential to ensure a fair and transparent procedure in land regularization and is essential for communities to be able to plan their future with greater certainty and stability, promoting orderly and sustainable growth.
