Cancun, Q.R. — Another new air connection from Canada to Cancun has begun operating. On Thursday, Lynx Air made its inaugural landing at the Cancun International Airport after leaving Toronto.
The plane landed shortly before 7 p.m. on Thursday.
“Lynx Air first took to the skies less than two years ago and we are delighted to expand to Mexico, the third country already part of our network.
“Choosing Cancun as our first beach destination was easy. It is a popular vacation destination for Canadians with its famous beaches, hospitality and of course, great weather,” said Vijay Bathija, the General Commercial Director of Lynx.
“Cancun is our most in-demand international destination with more than 2,000 passengers heading to the beach each day. We are pleased to see that Lynx continues to expand its network from the Toronto airport and offer more options to passengers,” said Kurush Minocher, Executive Director of Customer Experience and Airline Relations.
Lynx Air will operate six weekly flights, from Thursday to Tuesday, on a permanent basis. The airline says they are hoping to add Montreal to Cancun to their schedule by the middle of this year or the beginning of 2025.
The Undersecretary of Tourism of Quintana Roo, Andrés Aguilar Becerril, says Canada is the second most important market (after the U.S.) with more than 8 percent of total visitors each year.
He says there are currently 23 Canadian destinations connected with the Mexican Caribbean and that more routes are being added due to the growing interest of travelers.
In December of 2023, Lynx Air (Lynx), Canada’s ultra-affordable airline, announced its expansion into Mexico, connecting Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) with Cancun International Airport (CUN).
