Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Attorney General Raciel López Salazar says his office is committed to providing an efficient public service to people seeking justice. On Wednesday, Salazar reaffirmed his commitment to building a solid Rule of Law to combat impunity and regain citizen confidence in the Attorney General’s Office.
The commitment was made with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the World Justice Project, the State Government, the Judicial Branch and the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Quintana Roo.
During his speech at the event headed by Governor Mara Lezama, Raciel López highlighted that one year after taking the reins, he has focused on working to consolidate the government’s objectives.
“To meet this challenge, we set our goals in building a new environment of security and justice under the principles established in the agreement which are Transparency, Accountability, Citizen Participation and Collaboration and Innovation, with fair laws that guarantee respect for the rule of law,” he said.
One of the first actions upon his arrival at the Attorney General’s Office was to clean up the institution, which meant firing 266 public servants who deviated from the law. Salazar added that was in addition to rotating 587 substantive and administrative staff.
He said that in terms of transparency, so far this year, the Prosecutor’s Office has received 337 requests for access to information, all of which have been handled by the institution’s Transparency Unit.
Salazar said that on May 9, 2024, together with the Secretariat of Citizen Security, they formed a special group to address business extortion. He also said that in the area of technological innovation, they are developing a website for citizen complaints where victims of low-impact crimes can file a complaint without having to go to the FGE office.
“Talking about the rule of law, as a guarantor of an open government and justice, means reaffirming our commitment to the truth and mainly to all citizens, to strengthen trust in their authorities and consolidate together the empathy between society and government,” he emphasized.
