I have been reading the recent letters regarding the mega plant generator on Isla Mujeres that was installed about 5 years ago. I am surprised that nothing has been done to help these people live a life that they thought they had prior to 2019.
I have been a frequent visitor to Isla Mujeres staying upwards to 4 or five months over many many years but in reading the lack of concern both from CFE and authoritative agencies I must admit I will have to look elsewhere to spend my hard earned money.
Why? Well, as someone who has actually stayed on Isla in front of where the generator is while it was running I can actually say I almost lost my mind not to mention damage to my hearing and one only knows what damage breathing in toxic diesel fumes did to my lungs. It was unbelievable the noise and fumes being emitted from that ugly machine.
I know that the island needs power but at what cost to lives of the people who live in front of that? Many of them are friends of mine and they have lived there for over 20 years for the most part, none of them contributed to the mega homes and hotels now being constructed which have to be putting such a drain on the power supply and water supply to the Islanders.
This generator looks like it should be declared illegal in any country, but I guess it isn’t or no one cares if it is.
What an eyesore for first time visitors to Isla. That road is always full of “golf cart tours” and others who are maybe thinking of perhaps making Isla their go to vacation spot or if lucky enough to perhaps own a piece of this island but one can only imagine that they must have second thoughts after seeing that mess even when it is not running it is ugly and in visible sight.
Why couldn’t thought and consideration have gone into the placement of this? I know for a fact that it was promised maybe 4 years ago to Islanders that it would be moved to a location where no one lives in close vicinity to it? What happened to that promise?
There are many more “industrial” locations that the generator could have been placed with minor if no infringement on those living or vacationing in the area. What was the thought process? Was someone mad at someone living along the street?
Was it because maybe 90% of those residents are not Mexican citizens all the while these lovely people decided to invest in Isla and call her their second or first homes and who spent hard earned money doing so.
To have their lives and health jeopardized in such an uncaring manner only leads me to spend my money elsewhere and will make sure my opinion is heard through whatever social media and or vacation sites I can access.
The island deserves better and until lives matter then adios Isla Mujeres and Mexico – I will go elsewhere!!
Looking for Paradise in a caring and health location.
