Cancun, Q.R. — A Cancun judge has agreed to charge Jesús Emmanuel “N” for extorting a handyman with a published phone number. Police say on March 19, Jesús Emmanuel “N” began demanding 5,000 pesos a month after finding the number on social media.
Authorities say the victim is a handyman who offers home maintenance services on social media where he had published his contact information.

Police say Jesús Emmanuel “N” claimed to be from a criminal group and had threatened the victim with kidnapping if he did not pay. The victim was given a bank card number for the deposits.
After two deposits, the victim filed a complaint with local authorities that lead to the arrest and subsequent charges against Jesús Emmanuel “N”.
Jesús Emmanuel “N” was charged for events that occurred starting March 19 of this year, when the victim received a telephone call in which the accused demanded the amount of 5,000 pesos monthly for “right of floor”, police said.
“It is worth mentioning that the victim offers home maintenance services and promotes himself through social media where he publishes his phone numbers for hiring,” they added.
“After demanding the aforementioned amount, the now accused warned him that if he did not pay “they would kidnap him” since they had him located, he had to “fall in line”.
“Likewise, he presented himself as a member of a criminal group that generates violence.
“Jesús Emmanuel “N” provided the victim with a bank card number so that he could deposit the demanded money. Faced with the threats made, he made two payments, and later reported to police.”
A Cancun judge has ordered Jesús Emmanuel “N” to remain jailed during his trial.
