Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Q.R. — A State Police officer died early Sunday morning after being shot during a stolen vehicle operation. The shooting happened shortly after 3:00 a.m. when police where traveling a dirt road in the municipality of Felipe Carrillo Puerto.

While conducting the search operation for the stolen vehicle, officers were fired upon by armed individuals in the surrounding jungle. One of the officers was hit during the attack and transferred to hospital where he died.
Quintana Roo authorities have identified the now-deceased officer as Alejandro “N”. In a statement Sunday, they reported that despite medical efforts, the officer died.
Alejandro “N” was reported to be a member of the Jaguar Tactical Force, a specialized unit of the State Police and was a new member of the team.
In a statement, the SSC (Secretariat of Citizen Security) said they “conducted an operation to locate and recover a stolen vehicle on a dirt road off the Tepich-San Ramón highway in the municipality of Felipe Carrillo Puerto.
“During the operation, officers were fired upon from the surrounding jungle, triggering Code Red. A coordinated effort was deployed between the three levels of government to immediately secure the area, ensuring no risk to the public.
“Tragically, State Police Officer Alejandro “N” was wounded during this operation. He was transported to the General Hospital of Felipe Carrillo Puerto where, despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.
“The Secretariat offers its full support and condolences to the family following the loss of our fallen comrade, recognizing his dedication to public safety.

“The Secretariat reiterates its commitment to continue its work to ensure the implementation of the security strategy that guarantees the peace of mind of the population,” the SSC (Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana) said.
According to preliminary reports, the alleged assailants escaped along rural roads after the attack. Police have not mentioned the detainment of any suspects.
