Holbox, Q.R. — Puddles and potholes created by recent rains have islanders asking for a day of reduced driving to help preserve streets. The hidden potholes in different parts of the city are caused by vehicles using the roadways after heavy rain.

Former ejidal commissioner Ely González urged Holbox taxi drivers to reduce their circulating units by half through the Hoy No Circula program. González says the reduction in traffic would go a long way to not affecting the recently leveled streets
The Lázaro Cárdenas City Council recently added sand and leveled the streets through the sanitation department, something that has improved island image.
Islanders are suggesting to city authorities to implement a “no circulation day” to reduce road traffic after rain. Islanders are hoping that reducing traffic, even by half, will help preserve the sand that has been laid in the streets.

A majority of the region was hit by hard rain Thursday and Friday. Those rains left behind large puddles on several Holbox streets. On social media, Islanders have proposed heavy units not use the main roadways and that City Council create a specific route for them so that the streets are not affected.
