Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Civil Protection Director Carlos Gamboa Ortiz says more than 27,000 are expected to visit the island’s beaches this summer. Due to the anticipated mass arrival of visitors, Isla Mujeres Civil Protection has increased beach safety.

According to Gamboa Ortiz, additional lifeguards have been added to both the island’s beaches as well as the Isla Blanca beach area of the Isla Mujeres mainland of Costa Mujeres. He reported that 10 additional lifeguards have been deployed between the mainland beach area and the island for the summer holidays.

The additional lifeguards are being added to increase beach patrols and surveillance be able to react in the event of an emergency. Gamboa Ortiz emphasized that it is very important for beachgoers to heed the lifeguards’ recommendations to ensure a safe stay on the beaches of Isla Mujeres.

“It is important to respect the posted flags, avoid drinking alcoholic beverages before entering the sea, keeping an eye on minors and respecting the buoyed area, among other recommendations,” said the Director of the Municipal Civil Protection Coordination.

Gamoba Ortiz said that beach patrols are conducted daily from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. On the island’s Playa Centro and Playa Norte, there are two permanent modules which are open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for visitor assistance.
