Tulum, Q.R. — Authorities say drug dealing is their current line of investigation into the murder of a local worker. The worker, a man, was found shot to death early Friday on a dirt road in Tulum.
He was murdered during a music festival that started Thursday night. Police say the deceased man was a temporary worker and that they are “exploring the possible connection between the incident and drug trafficking activities, without ruling out other hypotheses.”
According to reports, the shooting happened early Friday morning during the music festival which likely muffled the sound of gun shots. The now deceased man, who has not been identified beyond being a Tulum hotel worker, is reported to have been lead away from the festival by two men.

The three men relocated to a nearby dirt road where the worker was shot. His body was found Friday morning on the property. There are reports that police were delayed entering the crime scene since the festival took place on private property that was manned by private security guards.
The Quintana Roo Attorney General’s Office (FGE Quintana Roo) reported the opening of an investigation into the aggravated homicide of a male temporary worker, which occurred on a dirt road near a music event in the municipality of Tulum.
“Authorities at all three levels of government are working together to apprehend those responsible for this targeted attack, which resulted in the death of a person from a gunshot wound and did not endanger the safety of those attending the event,” the agency reported Friday.
“As the primary line of investigation, the Attorney General’s Office is exploring the possible connection between the incident and drug trafficking activities, without ruling out other hypotheses.

“The State Attorney General’s Office reiterates its commitment to zero impunity and to bringing lawbreakers to justice.”
