INM deports Cuban national from Cancun with outstanding U.S. arrest warrant

Cancun, Q.R. — A suspect wanted in the U.S. has been deported from Cancun. The Cuban man was taken into custody Tuesday and handed over to the National Migration Institute.

Cancun police say Yoexy “N”, a Cuban national, was arrested for failing to prove his legal status in the country.

According to authorities, he has an outstanding arrest warrant in Tampa, Florida for Conspiracy to Distribute Controlled Substances. He was turned over to the National Migration Institute (INM) for his prompt removal as he is wanted by U.S. authorities.

His arrest, the SSC (Secretary of Citizen Security) said, was carried out following surveillance and based on sensitive information obtained in coordination with personnel from the Transnational Crimes Unit and with the support of technological equipment.

“During patrols, authorities noticed a motorcyclist endangering the safety and traffic of vehicles, as well as the lives and well-being of pedestrians in the area,” the SSC said.

“He was stopped on Cartagena Street in block 325, Santa Fe II neighborhood in Cancun where he was informed that he would be subject to a temporary preventive check. He was unable to prove his legal status in the country.”

He is the second Cuban national to be sent to the U.S. after being arrested in Cancun this month. Last week, police in Cancun arrested Remigio “N”, a high-priority target wanted in the U.S. for trafficking in persons, drugs and international smuggling.
