Othón P. Blanco, Q.R. — The Mexican Army in conjunction with the National Guard have increased security patrols in the south after two homes were shot up. During the separate targeted shootings, one person was reported killed.
During the past week, two homes were left riddled with bullets after being the target of shootings in the town of Sergio Butrón Casas. The latest shooting happened Wednesday around 3:00 a.m. that left one person inside the home dead.
Neighbors on Francisco J. Mujica Street made the report to 9-1-1 after hearing dozens of rounds being fired in the middle of the night.
The Secretariat of National Defense reported that personnel from the Mexican Army and National Guard have since stepped up patrol efforts in the area to deter criminal activity.
On Thursday, the increased security resulted in the locating of a vehicle loaded with weapons. The compact car was found approximately 2 kilometers before the town of Sergio Butrón Casas where the shootings had taken place.
Inside the abandoned car authorities found communication equipment, a long weapon, magazines, ammo, one homemade explosive device and a score of tire puncture devices. The red Volkswagen Golf was found unoccupied with the windows down on a section of Othón P. Blanco highway outside the town. The car and its contents were seized by authorities.
