Imoveqroo starts study at Tulum’s Aldea intersection due to ‘significant number’ of accidents

Tulum, Q.R. — State authorities are working on a strategy to improve road safety at the Aldea interseciton of Tulum. According to municipal information, the intersection has one of the highest rates of accidents, mostly due to speed.

Within the framework of the Comprehensive Road Safety Program (PISVI), the Quintana Roo State Mobility Institute (Imoveqroo) carried out a technical inspection. The Aldea Tulum road junction, located at the intersection of Federal Highway 307 and the Aldea Tulum subdivision, was a point identified with a high incidence of road accidents.

In a statement, Imoveqroo said the intervention was developed under the Safe System approach, which prioritizes the prevention of serious injuries and deaths from traffic incidents.

The System recognizes that human errors should not result in fatal consequences and that infrastructure, speed management and regulation should contribute to safer road environments.

Through the Directorate of Studies and Projects, specialized technical actions were carried out that included flight planning, field inspection and aerial surveies with a drone.

“This will allow for accurate information for risk analysis, identification of road conflicts and definition of improvement measures in the infrastructure and road operation of the node,” they said.

According to information from municipal authorities, in the last three years. this intersection has registered a significant number of road accidents associated with speeding, non-compliance with signage and geometric conditions that increase exposure to risk, especially for pedestrians and cyclists.

As part of the technical monitoring of the PISVI, Imoveqroo will continue the Road Safety Audit of the Aldea Tulum node, with the objective of identifying risk factors.

They said they will continue searching for areas of opportunity and propose comprehensive measures aimed at speed management, infrastructure improvement, strengthening regulations and the systematic reduction of road accidents.

Authorities are hoping to reduce accidents caused by speeding and careless driving. January 19, 2026.
