Bacalar, Q.R. — A Technical Committee for Mobility and Road Safety has been installed in Bacalar. The newly formed committee will be responsible for the municipality’s design of innovative transportation solutions, road planning, training and infrastructure.
The Mobility Institute of the State of Quintana Roo (Imoveqroo) installed the Technical Committee of Bacalar Monday. The General Director of Imoveqroo, Rodrigo Alcazar Urrutia, highlighted the importance of this achievement.
“With the installation of this committee we reaffirm our commitment to build safer and more sustainable mobility in Quintana Roo and it is made up of representatives from the government, civil society, academia and the private sector, to work collaboratively.”
He said Bacalar joins the eight other municipalities that already have this mechanism for citizen participation. Bacalar Mayor José Alfredo Contreras stressed the importance of this committee for the municipality.
“This is a fundamental step towards building decent and accessible mobility for all Bacalar residents. By joining forces between the government, civil society and the private sector, we are shaping a more sustainable and equitable future for our municipality.”
The Bacalar Technical Committee on Mobility and Road Safety seeks to identify problems and provide tailored solutions through the active participation of all sectors.
Alcazar Urrutia explained that the Committee will promote actions to reduce polluting emissions, promote the use of public and non-motorized transport and improvements to road infrastructure, in addition to the implementation of measures to reduce accidents and protect all road users.
“By working together, the government, civil society and the private sector will be able to build a safer, more inclusive and sustainable municipality,” said the head of Imoveqroo.
Abel López Dodero, the Coordinator of the Mobility Agenda for the World Bank for Latin America and the Caribbean, who was invited to the inauguration of the Committee, highlighted the potential of Bacalar as a model to follow in the region.
“Quintana Roo is at the forefront in terms of mobility and the installation of this is a clear example of that commitment,” he said.
